Men Who Fought

The thousands of men who fought were from some 26 states in the US “covering the country like a rainbow” , so the name means. They were young men, farmers, medics, fathers, sons and each fought with great bravery. We only talk about Hatten here, but the 42nd Rainbow division was also a part of Operation Nordwind and the liberation of the Dachau Concentration Camp.

I’m honored that my great-granddad had the bravery and courage to do what had to be done for his country and his fellow man. Still kickin at 94, he bowls twice a week and travels the world. Reminding me that his sacrifice and those of his division make that life possible. I will always remember.
